
We had our annual spelling bee where the top two winners advance to the Montgomery County spelling bee later this month. Kacie Almazan earned 1st place, Kolton Foraker earned 2nd place and Torison Wullenschneider is the alternate, earning 3rd. Congrats to all the kids that competed today!









Our Classified Staff of the Month is Woodman Hayes. Mr. Hayes works in our tech department and always has a smile on his face. He is so helpful and goes above and beyond for our staff and students. Mr. Hayes embodies #TheBulldogWay. Thank you for all you do!


Our Male Athlete of the Week is Brodie Small! his coaches say "Brodie Small is our Athlete of the Week, Brodie is a hard working young man, he always comes to work with a positive attitude. When Brodie is off the court he is an amazing student with straight A’s. Brodie also participates in a dual sport this season, both in basketball/quiz bowl. Brodie is a very coachable young man and is always looking to get better."

Our Female Athlete of the Week is Lauren Blackard! Coach says "Lauren Blackard is new to quiz bowl this year, but has quickly learned the rules/etiquette of quiz bowl and each week she is gaining more and more confidence on the buzzers and in herself. She has been a force at our first two tournaments of the season, helping earn quite a few points for her team. Lauren comes to practice everyday with a smile and a positive attitude, ready to give her best. I appreciate the quiet leadership she brings to our team and the school, all while maintaining excellent grades throughout the year. I am proud of Lauren and am so glad she decided to join our team this year!"

February 5-9, 2024, is designated National School Counseling Week to help raise awareness of the vital role these individuals play in schools. Bulldog Basketball will play the first game of the Winter Classic @ 830 am in Coffeyville on Saturday. This game will be played against Parsons. Their next game will be dependent on the result of this game. #TheBulldogWay

Yearbook is working hard to sell 100 yearbooks. You can help by purchasing a yearbook online or bringing cash or check to room 321. Yearbooks are $35.00 and will be sold daily and at SLC conferences. On February 20th yearbook will hold a drawing for everyone who has purchased a yearbook. The lucky winner will receive $20.00 cash.

Some of our students got to visit the home of the AFC Champion and reigning Super Bowl Champion, Kansas City Chiefs, today! Students got the entire tour of Arrowhead and had a blast doing it. They didn't get to see any players, but did get the red carpet treatment. #TheBulldogWay





Sophie Ballew is our Female Athlete of the Week. Coach says "I'd like to nominate Sophie Ballew for female athlete of the week. Sophie has been involved with quiz bowl since the 6th grade "taste of quiz bowl" and has stepped up into a leadership role for our team this season. Each year, she has gained more and more confidence in herself to become a force on our team, earning a spot on our A squad. She shows up to practice every day and sets a good example for our younger teammates, always demonstrating proper quiz bowl etiquette and encouraging everyone to do their best. I am proud of Sophie and can't wait to see all that she accomplishes this season with our team!"

The Independence Reporter did a "What Kansas Means to Me" Essay contest and the winners were announced in yesterday’s edition and IMS's own, Colton Baine, won 1st place in his age group. His essay was published in yesterday’s Reporter and he also won a $25 Main Street gift certificate. Great job Colton!!!! We have attached his essay!

Reminder, tonight there is a meeting for 8th graders and their parent/guardian regarding enrollment and expectations at IHS. This is a great chance to get questions answered, meet the administration/staff and become familiar with expectations/policy at IHS.
