Some math students went on a field trip to Pitt State this week. They learned about different ways that math is applied in the world, such as barcodes & manufacturing, meteorology, and astronomy. We also got to learn some fun math games!

The IHS chapter of the National Honor Society was recently awarded the Excellence in Scholarship award for their peer tutoring initiative, PAW (Peer Assistance Wednesdays). NHS members are available in the IHS library after school on Wednesdays from 2:45 until 3:45 in order to offer peer assistance and tutoring to students looking for academic help. This innovative approach to scholarship and academic achievement within Independence High School earned the NHS national recognition as a chapter committed to upholding one of the key pillars of the NHS. Congratulations to NHS sponsors Halle Connors and Rene Stanley and to NHS members who give their time and talent to help other students succeed.
