Our Counseling Department put together a great escape room for our staff today! Team Building and having fun together is important! The best part of the escape room is that our teachers, did in fact, escape! Once they problem solved their way out, they earned themselves a taco bar as a snack! We love our staff! #TheBulldogWay




IMS students and staff want to thank the members of the district IT department for all the numerous tasks they do each day to keep us up and running! We literally couldn't do our school day without you, seriously, we couldn't!

Really trying to cultivate a culture of cheering each other on at IMS and Maddy Seel showed that she follows #TheBulldogWay, as she was named our fan of the game tonight! Maddy did a great job of staying engaged and cheering her fellow Bulldogs on tonight in Volleyball!

Lady Bulldog Volleyball competed against Roosevelt Middle School (Coffeyville) and earned wins in 3 of the 4 matches! 7A,7B and 8B earned wins while 8A lost in a highly contested match. Great job ladies! #TheBulldogWay

8th grade Student Council members traveled to Columbus to the Regional Student Council Conference. Students learned about being responsible for the greatness inside of themselves. #TheBulldogWay




Our Female Athlete of the Week is Sadie York. The coaches nominated her and said "Sadie York is a great asset to our tennis team. She’s a great leader using her experience from last year, she works hard, and does what we need without complaint."

Our Male Athlete of the Week is McCay Bowers. McCay was nominated by his coaches, who say "McCay has demonstrated great leadership both on and off the field. McCay has dominated the past 2 weeks on defense helping the bulldogs with 2 straight weeks of shutouts. McCay has shown dedication to the program and displayed leadership by working hard and always on time and ready to play."

1st quarter progress reports are being sent home with IMS students today.

IMS Tutoring Schedule - IMS will begin building-wide free tutoring for any IMS student starting next week: September, 19th. If your child is struggling in a core class, please encourage him/her to see a teacher to get extra help either before or after school. If your son/daughter is coming in for a morning session, please have him/her buzz into the building at the front door and ask to be let in for tutoring. The tutoring schedule is attached below and will be updated quarterly.

We were overjoyed to have DeMoine Adams, from Teammates (https://teammates.org/), to talk to our students about this amazing program we are starting. This program will help us connect with the community more and, most importantly, have our students connect with the community through having the support from Teammates Mentors. We are excited to roll this program out and so are the students. #TheBulldogWay


Levi Dillon is our Male Athlete of the Week! Levi had himself a game last night against Labette, scoring multiple touchdowns and playing hard! He works that hard in the classroom as well. Levi was an emphatic choice by his coaches for his work ethic and his effort. Levi, we are proud of you, keep it up! #TheBulldogWay

Joshlynn Johnson is our Female Athlete of the week. Joshlynn was nominated by her volleyball and cheer coaches for her amazing attitude, her effort and her leadership skills. 8th Grade ELA classes had the privilege of interviewing several veterans today in preparation for the upcoming Patriot’s Pen project sponsored by the VFW. This year’s theme is “My Pledge to Our Veterans”.




Students in Mr Ellison's 8th Grade Robotics class built windmills for the fictional community of Zephyrville today. Zephyrville is a struggling midwest community that was once a boomtown. The city council is wanting to move the community towards the 21st century to revive the city and decided that renewable energy was the best option. Students were challenged to use their new knowledge of mechanisms to build a prototype windmill to transfer energy from the blades(wind) to the base(generator) of the windmill. Students were required to choose at least two mechanisms from the following list to transfer the energy to the ground:
Simple Gear Train
Gear Train with Idler
Bevel Gear
Worm and Wheel
Rack and Pinion
Chain Drive
Belt Drive
Cam and Follower



IMS volleyball hosted Pitt tonight. 7C and 8C teams won their matches, with 8A, 8B, 7A and 7B losing. There were some tough losses but the team will get back to work tomorrow, as they travel to Chanute on Thursday! Keep working ladies, we are proud of you! #TheBulldogWay


Independence is excited to announce the TeamMates mentoring program will come to Independence on September 12th, 2022! TeamMates is a 1-1 in-school mentoring program for students entering 3rd-12th grade, where a mentor meets with a mentee one time a week and meets with the mentee up to high school graduation. Our district will begin this program in 3rd-8th grades in 2022-23, with a high school grade level added per year beginning in the 2023-24 school year.
