McAfee Update:

• Locate the magnifying glass with the red circle.  It will be located in the task bar on your computer desktop near the time/clock.
• Double-click this magnifying glass (if you were unable to locate the clock, see the "Special Instructions" below).
• In the title bar of the box that appears, it should read "VirusScan Console".
• Locate the "Help" pull-down menu near the top of the window.  Click once with the left button and choose "About".
• You should see an information box like this:

Virus Definitions: This version number is the one usually referred to in e-mails - sometimes only by the last four digits. This example is OLD. Refer to the e-mail or contact btincher@indyschools.com for the latest version number

Scan Engine: This the engine version number and reflects what version of McAfee's program is currently installed.

Created on: This is the date of the last Virus Definitions Update.

 The information we are MOST OFTEN interested in is the Virus Definition Version Number (4294 in the example above) or the Virus Definitions Update date (September 18, 2003 in the example above).

Special Instructions for those who do not see the magnifying glass:

1. Click on Start and choose Programs.
2. Locate "Network Associates" and select it.
3. Inside the Network Associates folder, locate "VirusScan Console" (BE CAREFUL not to select just plain "VirusScan".)
4. Select VirusScan Console and it will run the same program as double-clicking the magnifying glass in the instructions above.  If prompted to run the AVSYNCH Manager, answer Okay or Yes.
