USD 446 All Day Kindergarten

The Independence public schools all-day kindergarten program is encouraged for all eligible students.  Parents have the option of having their students attend half-day kindergarten sessions. Parents MUST coordinate half-day attendance with the Eisenhower Building Principal, Brad Carroll:  Telephone (620) 332-1854.

The laws of Kansas state that children who will be five years old on or before August 31 are eligible to attend kindergarten classes. In fact, it is every child's legal right to attend kindergarten, once they reach the eligible age.

Kindergarten Roundup is held in late spring, with fees due during the August enrollment period. Kindergarten assessments take place in late August, after school begins.

Kindergarten parents should bring the following information to the school office when they come to register their students:

  • Child's official birth certificate (hospital certificates are not acceptable)
  • Child's immunization records
  • Name and telephone number of the child's physician
  • Information for bus transportation, emergencies, and health record forms
  • Verification of the child's physical examination

 Certificate of Immunization

The Kansas Department of Health and Environment requires an appropriate series of immunizations for all children who are entering school for the first time.

Completed immunization forms must be on file in the school office before students begin classes. A card signed by a physician or authorized proof from a clinic health department is required. Parents with questions should contact Kathy Raub, R.N., the USD 446 school nurse, through any school, or the Montgomery County Health Department at 620-331-4300.
