Title 1--A school-wide program designed to assist students who need
additional and individualized instruction in the area of reading. Title 1 Extended Kindergarten--All day kindergarten for students needing additional academic assistance. Literacy Center for 1st and 2nd grade students. Transitional First Grade class. Counseling--Full-time counselor offers individual and classroom guidance. Music and PE--Grades K-2 Special Education- Full scale program serving students with special needs. VIP Program- High School students work with k-1 students to increase one-to-one opportunities for learning. PTO--Independence Bullpup Booster Organization maintains communication between home and school and supports students and teachers in achieving school success. Science- Stimulating hands-on program for 1st and 2nd grade students to construct a solid foundation of scientific inquiry. Book Buddies--Partners kindergarten and second grade students for a monthly session of shared reading. Accelerated Reading (or simply "AR")--A computerized reading management program which utilizes great children's literature and the computer to improve student's critical thinking and problem-solving skills which motivates them to read more and better books. Technology Skills- A networked, Internet-accessed computer system throughout the building where computers reinforce the curriculum. DADS--(Dads Are Dynamic Storytellers) Allows dads to read stories to students. SEK- (Southeast Kansas Academy) - A therapeutic school setting designed to help students who have difficulty adjusting to the regular school environment. |
