Carole Farthing
BOE President

Carole Farthing is serving her second term on the Board of
Education. Reared in a family of educators, she learned early to
value education. She had a teaching career of 34 years, 22 of those
in Independence. She and her husband, Don, have two daughters and
six grandchildren.
Carole’s daughters graduated from IHS, as have two of her
granddaughters. One of those granddaughters is about to begin a
teaching career of her own. A grandson will enter IHS this fall.
Having a strong commitment to education for all children, Carole
wanted to be involved in a different way. Serving the patrons and
students of USD 446 as a board member seemed a reasonable way to be
connected and involved.
“This is an exciting time for Independence schools, and a
challenging time as well. As we approach that 2014 mandated deadline
from the NCLB act, and as we begin construction and renovation of
our facilities, there is much to command attention of board members,
and of school patrons as well. It is all part and parcel of
providing the best education possible for students in our district.” |
