Title:
IMS staff will flip burgers to benefit academic rewards program during Wednesday "McTeacher Night"...
Body:

Local community members will have the opportunity to support academic excellence at Independence Middle School when the IMS staff participates in “McTeacher Night” at the Independence McDonald’s Restaurant on Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m.

In return for IMS teachers working in various service roles at McDonalds, franchise owner Frank Crebase will donate a percentage of the event’s gross sales to the IMS Renaissance Program.

Wednesday evening’s McTeacher Night will be about more than just discounted Happy Meals and quarter pounder specials said IMS Principal Mark Hayward.

“It’s really more of a community celebration,” Hayward said.  “We want school families and community members to come out and enjoy the talents of the IMS and IHS music programs and help our middle school students and staff celebrate the end of our state testing season.”

Musical groups scheduled to perform between 5 and 7 p.m. include the IMS Band and the IHS Jazz Band under the direction of Erin Shelton, as well as the IMS Orchestra under the direction of Faye Millen.

In addition, Millen and fellow IMS music teacher Dale Belcher will entertain guests with fiddle and guitar selections.

Renaissance is an academic recognition program that is available to all students at IMS.  Students earn Renaissance rewards by achieving challenging and rigorous academic goals during the school year.

Established at IMS in 2003, the program is funded by donations from local businesses, as well as the Independence school district.  Numerous businesses also provide support by offering incentives, coupons and discounts.
