“STUDENTS OF THE MONTH”
ZACH MAY INDEPENDENCE HIGH SCHOOL
and
CAMERON GOODRICH WASHINGTON SCHOOL
An Independence High School senior and a Washington School fifth grader have been chosen as “Students of the Month” for March in the Independence public schools.
Selected for the district-wide honor were Zach May of IHS and Cameron Goodrich of Washington.
Zach is the son of Brad and Anna May and has one brother, Cobra. He is a member of Spanish Club, vice president of Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) and plays baseball and football. Last summer he attended the American Legion Boys State of Kansas Leadership Academy. He also attends First Baptist Church where he is active in youth group. Zach plans to pursue a degree in either nursing or business administration and finance at KU or K-State.
Cameron is the son of Lurinda and John Francouer. He has two older brothers, Wes and Aidan, and a little sister named Annabelle. Cameron’s teachers say he works hard to earn good grades and does the right thing even when others aren’t watching him. His outstanding work habits set a very positive example for his peers and he is always respectful and pleasant to both staff and his fellow students.
Initiated during the 2007 school year, the district-wide student recognition program honors one elementary student from grades kindergarten though fifth and one secondary school student from grades sixth through 12th. All schools nominate one student every month, September through May. Monthly recipients receive a $50 savings bond from Community National Bank and a free movie pass for their families provided by Independence Cinemas. In addition, recipients are recognized in a specially-designed advertisement in the Independence Reporter and treated to lunch by their school principals.
