The USD 446 Board of Education . . .

would like to invite and encourage community members,  personnel, and students
to submit feedback on three recommended names for the new school building which will serve 3^rd through 5^th grades.

The Independence USD 446 board has appointed a committee to receive suggested names for the new elementary school currently being built.  That committee was directed to solicit input from the community and make a recommendation of three names to the board.  After reviewing over 150 suggestions, the committee made the following recommendations:

• Sunflower

• Prairie View

• Tallgrass  

The committee was undecided between following the new school name with "Elementary " or "Intermediate ".  This building will serve grades 3 through 5.

On January 11, The USD 446 board decided to expand consideration of a
name for the new 3-5 elementary school.  They have now included the top 12
choices from the School Naming Committee.  These names are listed below.

Patrons are requested to make comments on these names so the board can
include public preference in their consideration.

• Amelia Earhart

• Independence Intermediate

• Laura Ingalls Wilder

• Martin Luther King

• Meadowlark

• Prairie

• Prairie View

• Riverside

• Sunflower

• Tallgrass

• Thomas Jefferson
