Julia Stafford finished 32nd while Raquel Dungey finished 42nd this weekend at the State Cross Country Meet.

Independence Bulldogs qualifies Raquel Dungey and Julia Stafford for State Meet.  Raquel Dungey finished 6th and Julia Stafford finished 8th at Regional on Saturday.

10/09 - We had a great cross country meet this Thursday. I want to thank all the volunteers who helped make our cross country meet a success. Special thanks go to Evan Hurford and Larry Bennett who spent all day Thursday marking off the course and organizing the meet. Also I want to thank Jerry Hart staff @ Sycamore Valley Golf Course for helping mark the course and using their facilities. This is a great location for a cross country meet.

 Comments: The girl’s team received 4th place just behind Ark City. Two of the seven girls placed in the top 20. Julie Stafford started in 10th  in the race just after the first half mile just like last week and finished with a 2nd place finish. Raquel Dungey ran a strong race to finish in 4th. The lady bulldogs ran a great race even know the team is face a lot of small nagging injuries.

Comments: In the boys varsity race John Hogge came close to placing in the top 15 with an 18th finish. The boys also ran a great race even know the whole team is facing a lot of small nagging injuries.

Comments: The JV boy’s team race one there best races ever. Leading the way was Nick Romans. This is the first time the boys JV has race a 5k race and they showed they can run with the rest of the other runners. I very proud of this young time and they effort they bring to the team.

Overall I very proud of this team and how hard they work each day. Just like any sport you will face you’re up and down, and today we had a down day of running. With all the small injuries we still ran a pretty good race. We can only get better from this point on.

 Independence varsity girl’s team placed 4th @ Independence Invitational this Thursday. Winning Individual medals were Julia Stafford 2nd and Raquel Dungey 4th. Top 15 medaled in Gardner Edgerton meet. Times and placements were:

09/25 - The weather was sunny, hot, very little wind, and muggy. The independence JV girl’s times and placements were:28th Tucker Kyle  21:30, 43rd Vanessa Lowdon  26:20 

 In the Iola cross country meet only the top 15 individuals medal. The JV boys had a fanatic race. The boys ran hard and fast. The JV boy’s time and places were: 37th Joel Goodwater 17:44, 42nd Randy Guan 18:06, 54th  Isaac Hilger 18:39, 61st Logan Papen 19:32, 75th Nicholas Newton 21:11, 79th Anthony Davis 21:58

Comments: After the race I was so proud of this team on how they finished. All the JV boys’ improvements just keep improving from week to week. The JV boys just had fun running. This team of boys are finding ways to run faster and harder.

Comments: The varsity girls had a fantastic race today. The girls team received 3rd place team medals. Four of the five girls placed in the top 25. The lady bulldogs team continuous to improve from week to week. Everyone on the team improved there time from last week and last year. Julie Stafford led the race just after the first half mile just like last week and kept the lead for the rest of the race. The team works extremely hard in practice and now all the hard work is paying off for the team. Raquel Dungey and Kelsey Hignight also ran an awesome race. They passed 10 runners in the last quarter mile to receive there top 20 finishes. Sondra Smith ran faster than her personal best time from last year to push her time to round out the top 25 runners. Haley Marchant also ran a sold race to helped the team receive there third place team medals.

The Independence Boys varsity boys placed one in the top 25, Jonathan Hogge 24th at the Iola meet. In the Iola cross country meet only the top 25 individuals medal. The boy’s time and placements were:

Comments: The boy’s team placed 6th @ the Iola cross country meet. The boys ran a hard race and passed a lot of runners to place. I was very pleases with the effort and drive from each runner. The whole team is improving from week to week. The kids are taking big steps in there running. Jonathan Hogge had a great race again this week to receive his best time this year with an 18:21. He passed 7 runners to get this time and place in the last mile.

All in all, Evan Hurford and I are so proud of the team and how they have become a family. The whole team cheers together, win together, and laugh together.  As a coach, it’s just a great feeling to watch your team pull together when the team is running . I’m so proud of this team and how much fun they have running and how hard they work to become better athletes. Our team as a whole has increased their weekly mileage from 15-17 mile to 20-25 mile a week and several of our runners are ready to take their efforts to the next level.

 

09/18 - The JV girl’s race started the Parsons cross country meet @ 4:00 p.m. 9-18-08. The weather was sunny, very little wind, and peaceful. The independence JV girl’s times and placements were: 21st Tucker Kyle 16:19,  32nd Vanessa Lowdon  16:23             

 In the Parsons cross country meet only the top 15 individuals medal. The JV boys had a fanatic race. The boys ran hard and fast. Half the team finished in the top 40 out of 81 runners. The JV boy’s time and places were: 30th John Stafford  14:21, 34th  Isaac Hilger 14:36, 37th Joel Goodwater  14:40, 57th Randy Guan  15:19, 70th Logan Papen 16:34, 75th Nicholas Newton  17:44, 79th Anthony Davis 18:10, 81st Coty MacRae 23:45

Comments: After the race I was so proud in the team on how they finished. All the JV boys improved there times again by a 1 minutes from last meet. The boys just had fun running. This team of boys are finding ways to run faster and harder. The boys are making giant improvements because they want to medal.

Comments: The varsity girls had an awesome race today. The girls team received there first place team medals of the season. Three of the Five girls placed in the top five. This team wants to win and they showed they can win. The lady bulldogs are running faster and having a lot of fun running as a team. Everyone on the team improved there time from last week. These girls are a great group of athletes and there only going to get better from this point. They got a taste of how good this team can be and they like there results. Julie Stafford led the race just after the first half mile and keeps the lead for the rest of the race. When this girl wants something she will give everything to complete the task, and today she wanted first. Raquel Dungey and Kelsey Hignight also ran an awesome race. They passed 6 runners in the last half mile to receive there first top 5 finishes. Sondra Smith ran a personal best of this year to push your time to round out the top 20 runners. Haley Marchant also ran a sold race to help the team receive there first place team medal.

The Independence Boys varsity boys placed one in the top 20, Jonathan Hogge 13th at the Parsons meet. In the Parsons cross country meet only the top 20 individuals medal. The boys are getting better. The boys ran a sold race and passed a lot of runner to place. The boy’s team had a great race at Parsons.

Comments: The boys are getting better. The boys ran a hard race and passed a lot of runner to place. The varsity boys ran a muddy race; they were the only race to have mud to run through. All the boys had mud on there face and uniforms. I was very pleases with the effort and drive from each runner. Just like the girls team most of the team is fighting to place in meets. The whole team is improving not just a little but a lot. The kids are taking pride in there running. Jonathan Hogge had a great race this week to receive his best placing this year with a 13th place. He passed 10 runners to get this placement in the last half mile.

All in all, Evan Hurford and I were very happy with the team’s effort. As a coach it’s a great feeling watch your team come together and winning as a team. I’m so proud of this team and how much fun they have running and how hard they work to become better athletes.

09/11 - The Jv girl's race started the Girard Cross Country meet @ 5:00pm.  The weather was raining, cold and the course was full of mud and water.  The Independence Jv girls times and placement were:  19th Tucker Kyle 17:18, 24th Grace Kyle 19:18                                

The Independence Jv Boys team placed one in the top 10: Carl Stinson with 6th at the Girard meet.  In the Girard cross country meet only the top 10 individual medal.  The Jv boys had a fantastic race.  The boys ran through the constant rain.  Half the team finished in the top 25.  After the race I was so proud in the team on how they finished.  All the Jv boys improved there times by 1 or 2 minutes from the last meet.  The boys just had fun running.  The Jv boys times and places were: 6th Carl Stinson 12:14, 20th Isaac Hilger 13:38, 23rd John Stafford 14:02, 25th Andy Tucker 14:18, 26th Randy Guan 14:36, 29th Logan Papen 15:15, 30th Nicholas Newton 15:52, 33rd Anthony Davis 17:10

The Independence High School Girls Varsity team placed 3rd.  Team members are Raquel Dungey, Julia Stafford, Kelsey Hignight, Haley Marchant, and Sondra Smith.  Winning Individual medals were Julia Stafford 3rd, Raquel Dungey 8th, Kelsey Hignight 12th, Sandra Smith 21st, and Haley Marchant 23rd.  Top 25 medaled in the Girard meet.  Times and placement were: 3rd Julia Stafford 16:14, 8th Raquel Dungey 17:31, 12th Kelsey Hignight 18:15, 21st Sandra Smith 19:37, 23rd Haley Marchant 20:05

"The varsity girls had an awesome race today.  The girls team received their first team medals of the season.  During the race the girls team ran through mud, water, 66 degree temp and a constant down pour of rain the whole race.  That didn't stop the lady bulldogs from running faster.  Everyone on the team improved their teams from last week by a whole minute.  These girls are a great group of athletes and they are only going to get better from this point."

The Independence Boys varsity placed two in the top 25.  Jonathan Hogge 19th and Aaron Hayes 24th at the Girard meet.  In the Girard cross country meet only the top 25 individuals medal.  The boys are getting better.  They worked so hard to place and now 2 out of 3 medals this week.  The boys ran a solid race and passed a lot of runners to place.  The boys team had a great race at Girard.  The boys time and placements were: 19th Jonathan Hogge 19:19, 24th Aaron Hayes 20:13, 33rd Ryan Taylor 25:14.

"The varsity boys ran a muddy race.  All the boys had mud from head to toe.  I was very pleased with the effort and drive from each runner.  Just like the girls team most of the team is fighting to place in meets.  The whole team is improving not just a little but a lot.  When the team average a minute improvement on there time.  The kids are taking pride in their running."

Each runner was covered with mud and everyone was soaked from the constant down pour of rain.  As a coach it's a great feeling watching your team come together and winning as a team.  I'm so proud of this team and how much fun they have running and how hard they work to become better athletes."

Max Bradbury has become the new head coach of the Bulldog Cross Country team.
