Meet The Counselors

Today:

Jamie Savage was born and raised in South Texas, but is now so glad to be working in Kansas. Mrs. Savage began her undergraduate studies at The University of Texas at San Antonio and graduated with a B.A. in 2002 from Sul Ross State University. In 2004, she graduated with her M.Ed. in counseling from Sul Ross State University. Prior to moving to Independence, Mrs. Savage taught at a high school in Texas. In 2005, Mrs. Savage and her family moved to Independence. While in Kansas, she has worked as a counselor at Altoona-Midway High School, a teacher at Independence Middle School, and has taught some night classes at Independence Community College. Mrs. Savage has four daughters—Karlie and Vaye, and twin daughters Brylee and Mae. Her husband, Jeremy, works for Dart Energy.  Mrs. Savage loves helping people, talking, and watching movies.

Carl Edwards is in his 34th year as a counselor in schools, having started his professional life as a bulldog at Linwood High School near Lawrence. After a brief stint in law school, he was hired in Fredonia as a counselor/teacher in 1977, and retired in 2008. He is married, and has 3 grown children--a daughter who teaches in Topeka, a son working for TIAA-CREF in Denver, and a son at Washburn University.
He enjoys reading and his favorite book is The Lord of the Rings. Carl also loves fantasy baseball, is a Red Sox fan (since 1960), has 2 spoiled dogs, and loves helping students with any question or problem.


Gayle Chapman has worked in the clerical field for 15 years. She worked in the Bartlesville area at Phillips 66 and Reda Pump Company before moving back to Independence. She worked at Woods Lumber before helping start the Penmac Personnel Office in town. She worked there for 5 years before staying home and raising her two younger children. Her and her husband Mike, have 3 daughters. Hilary, who is a graduate of IHS and is a sophomore in college at McPherson College in McPherson, KS. Taylor, is a 3rd grader at Lincoln and Kailtyn, is in Kindergarten at Eisenhower. Mrs. Chapman loves being around the students and enjoys shopping, Nascar, reading and shopping!!
